Produced on Astoria’s own farm - Val de Brun - in the Treviso region of Italy’s Veneto, this is a true luxury to drink. A blend of Glera (the new name for the grape formerly known as Prosecco) and Chardonnay, this is a modern style of sparkling wine from the Veneto and worthy of its enamelled, gold bottle. The grapes were manually harvested in September when at perfect ripeness and the pressed juice was allowed a short skin maceration to increase the intensity of fruit flavour. After the first fermentation the wine is kept on its lees for some weeks, again to increase the aromatic flavours. The second fermentation also takes place at a cool temperature which preserves the graceful balance inherent in this luxury sparkling wine. The wine is a treat in its own right, but packaged as it is it also makes an exceptional gift.
